"CF Minus 72 days and counting? What's CF?"

CF is short for Communicating Faith in the 21st Century, and it's the name of the day-long, diocesan-wide conference being held on Saturday, March 20, at St. Mark's, Orchard Park. CF is sponsored by the diocesan Communication Team.

moretzFr. Matthew Moretz (Christ Church, Rye, NY) will be our keynote speaker. Fr. Matthew is widely known for his unique videos on everything from the sacraments and the gospels to the Millenium Development Goals and how to become a saint. As announced on his website, Fr. Matthew Presents, this young Episcopal priest aims to examine "the treasures of Christianity, one video at a time." But quirky videos aren't his only gig.

As curate at Christ Church in Rye, NY, Matthew works with all aspects of church communication - from sharing news in traditional ways, which he says cannot be totally dismissed, to harnessing new forms of media that enable rapid and often less expensive ways to get the word out. He understands the importance and need for good communication within the congregation and from the congregation to the wider community.

Communicating Faith in the 21st Century will also examine how a coordinated and well-thought out parish communication plan can aid in the process of keeping your church members informed, publicizing events to the wider community and avoiding communication voids that can negatively impact many aspects of parish life.

You'll also be able to select two of eight workshops on topics such as traditional print newsletters, congregational communication, parish websites, advertising, e-newsletters, social media, video, and inexpensive communication strategies.

wordmadefreshIn advance of the conference, all congregations are encouraged to gather a group of folks to read and study the book, The Word Made Fresh, by Meredith Gould (Available for $22 from Amazon.com) Don't delay. There are only 72 days to go!

More details and registration for Communication Faith in the 21st Century will be published in the February issue of Church Acts Online.

A Note to Reporters

When writing about our bishop:

On first reference it is proper to use
"The Right Rev. R. William Franklin."

On subsequent references, use
"Bishop Franklin."

Also note:

“Episcopal” is an adjective.
“Episcopalian” is a noun.

An Episcopalian is someone who belongs
to the Episcopal Church.

It is incorrect to refer to Episcopalians
as "Episcopals" or to refer to the Episcopal
Church as "the Episcopalian Church."
