jmg10_31There is a phrase from an old Cornish peasant’s litany that is so wonderful for today and this time of year: “From ghosties and ghoulies, long leggetie beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord deliver us.” When we leave here today it will not be long before the annual parade of goblins, gremlins, witches and Michael Jacksons passes through our neighborhoods, if it has not already done so.

Sometimes I find it hard to relate Halloween in our culture and the observance of All Hallows.

A Note to Reporters

When writing about our bishop:

On first reference it is proper to use
"The Right Rev. R. William Franklin."

On subsequent references, use
"Bishop Franklin."

Also note:

“Episcopal” is an adjective.
“Episcopalian” is a noun.

An Episcopalian is someone who belongs
to the Episcopal Church.

It is incorrect to refer to Episcopalians
as "Episcopals" or to refer to the Episcopal
Church as "the Episcopalian Church."

Check our ChurchSpeak glossary for additional information.
