"Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me;
and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me"

(Mark 9:37)

The Book of Common Prayer states "any baptized person is welcome to receive communion in the Episcopal Church." This includes children and even infants, so it is common to see very young children taking communion.

Many churches offer a brief class for young children and their parents. These classes introduce the children to the basics of taking communion and provide parents age appropriate concepts they can use to discuss the meaning of the sacrament with their children. Check with your local parish for more information.
