"I was in prison and you visited me…"   Matthew 25:36

Kairos, God's Special Time, is an ecumenical Christian ministry that reaches out to incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them. Though clergy play a vital role, Kairos leadership is drawn largely from lay persons who volunteer their time.

Kairos volunteers, who come from all walks of life, share a desire to follow Christ's admonition to visit those who are imprisoned. They do so by offering a short course in Christianity over a three-day weekend to incarcerated men and women at correctional facilities throughout the WNY area.

One inmate who had experienced a Kairos weekend later wrote,

"What has Kairos done for me? Kairos gave me a reason to live. I believe that had I not come to know God's love, I would not be here today. How else could a person with two life sentences survive the horrors of prison life/ All things are possible with God. Without Him, many of us don't make it. It was because of Kairos that I got to know God, and ultimately, I was given the chance to live"

Kairos needs your support. Here are four ways you can participate:

  • Become a Kairos team member. Complete training is provided.
  • Be a prayer partner. All Kairos activities are wrapped in prayer. You can be part of that prayer effort.
  • Be an outside support volunteer. Bake cookies, write letters of support or prepare meals.
  • Be a financial booster. All Kairos activities are funded by donations. Any amount, small or large is appreciated.
