The goal of the Parish Nursing program is to encourage whole-person health through
• Integration of mind, body and spirit
• Increased self-knowledge
• Personal responsibility
• Interdependence among God’s people
Parish nurses affirm the church as a place for
prevention of illness or "disease," as they teach and support congregations in living with physical, spiritual, emotional and social "ease."
Each parish nurse program reflects
the needs and resources of the congregation and community in which it exists. For example, a parish nurse might:
- Help people connect the dots between faith, lifestyle and well-being.
- Coordinate healing services.
- Offer blood pressure monitoring.
- Help individuals better understand health issues through educational presentations.
- Recruit and train church members
for supportive healthcare services.
- Facilitate healthcare related support groups.
