Worship in Episcopal Churches PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Episcopal churches base their worship on the Book of Common Prayer.

Holy Eucharist, a service that includes Communion, is usually offered every Sunday morning and at various other times. Other prayer book services include:

  • Morning Prayer
  • Noonday Prayer
  • Evening Prayer (Often called Evensong when sung primarily by the choir and clergy.)
  • Compline (A contemplative service emphasizing spiritual peace.)

These are offered in two forms designated Rite I (thee's and thou's) and Rite II (modern language).

Beyond the Book of Common Prayer

Episcopal churches may also offer unique worship experiences such as:

  • Lessons & Carols
  • Taize
  • U2charist
