Angel Action
This volunteer agency brings hope & comfort
to low income and disadvantaged individuals in Wyoming County through
their food, clothing and furniture collections & distributions, Christmas
Adopt-a-Family program, youth programs, nursing home programs, Angel Action
Choir, and a variety of special projects.
Big Buddy Program
Serving the youth of the Batavia area, this program plays a crucial
role in children’s lives. A cadre of adult volunteers provide friendship
and support, bolstering self-esteem and helping kids develop the skills
needed to become responsible, self-sufficient young adults.
Cathedral Park Counseling
Located in downtown Buffalo, this agency offers short-term counseling
and referral services to individuals and families as well as walk-in-clients.
Chautauqua County Rural Ministry
Headquartered in Dunkirk, this interfaith agency works with rural poor,
minorities, battered women and farm workers providing emergency food,
clothing, shelter programs, and referral services.
Church Mission of Help
One of the oldest and most respected private counseling agencies in the
region, this Buffalo agency provides professional counseling for individuals,
couples and families. Services are offered on a sliding fee scale based
on income and family size.
Compass House
This agency, the only one of its kind in Erie county, offers short-term
residence, counseling, foster care and referral service to abused teenagers
and homeless youth. Immediate help and shelter are available 24 hours
a day for all youth.
Concerned Ecumenical Ministry
This interdenominational agency provides human service programs to 2,500
children, teenagers and senior citizens of Buffalo’s Upper West Side.
Family & Children’s Service of Niagara
This agency helps families in the Niagara Falls area experiencing difficulties
due to dysfunctional behavior, domestic violence, runaway youth, psychiatric
disorders or the lack of life skills.
Genesee Orleans Ministry of Concern
With offices in Albion and Batavia, this agency’s objectives are to provide
emergency services for the economically poor and to assist and encourage
members of the poverty community in becoming independent, self sufficient,
contributing members of society.
Genesis House
A shelter for homeless men, women and families located in Olean, New York
which provides a stable living environment along with counseling and referrals
aimed at preparing clients to become independent, contributing members
of the larger community.
Homespace
Serving young, homeless, single parent families, this agency provides
transitional housing and a safe and secure environment for children. Independent
living skills are taught in order to for these families to become free
from the limitations of a life dependent upon welfare.
Interfaith Caregivers
With offices in, this volunteer organization serves the frail elderly
and others with health impairments who are at risk of becoming institutionalized.
Friendly visitation, respite care, telephone assurance, light maintenance,
advocacy and referrals are provided.
Interfaith Hospitality Network
This coalition of concerned congregations in Buffalo and its suburbs provides
safe, secure shelter for homeless families. Host congregations open their
buildings on a rotating schedule to provide overnight shelter for one
week. Additional neighboring congregations help prepare meals, recreation,
companionship. Guests are transported daily to IHN’s Day Center for job
training, counseling, referral services and assistance in locating permanent
housing.
St. Philip's Community Center
Through tutorial and recreational programs, this agency enhances the lives
of children and senior citizens on Buffalo’s East Side.
Vive, Inc.
Vive assists refugees who claim political asylum and intend to enter Canada
complete the extensive paperwork required. Because Canada does not allow
refugees entrance into the country during the the months that processing
takes, this agency also provides temporary shelter during that time. Vive
is the only agency of its kind in the northern half of the United States.
