The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight goals that respond to the world's main development challenges. The target date for achievement of these goals is 2015.

#1  Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
#Achieve universal primary education
#Promote gender equality and empower women
#Reduce child mortality
#Improve maternal health
#Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
#Ensure environmental sustainability
#Develop a Global Partnership for Development

The MDGs are drawn from the Millennium Declaration adopted by 189 nations and signed by 147 heads of state and governments during the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000. The target date for achievement of these goals is 2015.

The Episcopal Church has this worldwide effort. Locally, our diocese has pledged the recommended 0.7 percent of it's annual operating budget to this end.
