What is the "Fair Share?" PDF  | Print |  E-mail

A parish's Fair Share is the annual amount the parish is asked to contribute towards the diocesan budget. Because the Fair Share formula is interdependent, the ask varies from church to church based on the income trend of each congregation in relation to the income trend of all congregations.

The formula in use determines this amount based on congregational income over three years, specifically the income reported on Line A of the Parochial Report, which is also known as the parish's net disposable budget income or NDBI.

The fair share expectation of this diocese remains in line with the amount asked by the average diocese of The Episcopal Church. For example, the amount asked of congregations in dioceses in the western United States is 25%, while our ask is less than 14%.

Efforts undertaken to devise a better formula in recent years were halted when it was determined that the
current formula is about as fair as any revenue sharing formula can be.
