What is Baptismal Ministry?
Through baptism each person receives gifts for ministry through the Holy Spirit, gifts that are intended to be embraced and lived out in the world. Baptismal Ministry Development programs help congregations of all sizes identify, encourage and foster baptismal ministry. It encourages church members to claim their discipleship and to participate fully in the life of their faith community.
Formal Commendation of a Baptismal Ministry Leadership Team
According to WNY’s unique baptismal
ministry concept, participating congregations undertake a period of
formation, education and discernment. Afterwards, the congregation
commends to the bishop members they discern to be called to the
leadership team. The team may include
- Administrators
- Catechists
- Pastoral
care ministers
- Preachers
- Worship leaders
Parish members may also
commend individuals for the ordained offices of deacon and priest. If
the bishop affirms the commendation of a core team of at least three
people, the team is liturgically initiated. Those individuals then
pursue regional training and formation appropriate to their specific
calls. The process ultimately results in diocesan licensing or
ordination.
